The Linebacker Syndicate exists because the most demanding position in football was being coached like an afterthought. We changed that on Long Island.
Mike Talbert's path to Division I football wasn't handed to him — he earned every yard of it. He started at the NAIA level, transferred to Division III, and out-worked the doubt until a full-scholarship Division I program came calling. He played the game as a true linebacker: reading guards, filling gaps and chasing ball-carriers from sideline to sideline.
That climb is the heart of how he coaches. Mike preaches resilience, hard work and faith — and the discipline of striving relentlessly toward a goal, even when the path isn't a straight line. He knows the position isn't about being the biggest athlete on the field; it's about being the toughest-minded and the fastest thinker.
He founded Mike Talbert Performance to give the position the coaching it deserves — one athlete, one read, one rep at a time. Today, athletes from across Suffolk County train at the Syndicate's Islip facility, from first-year youth players to college commits building recruiting film.
"I don't train players to do drills. I train them to see the game faster than the kid across from them."
No viral gimmicks. Just the fundamentals that show up when the lights come on.
A linebacker who understands the why plays a half-step faster than one who memorizes.
We invest in local athletes for the long haul — many train with us for years.
